Glass Walls and Free Falls

A Couple Leaves their Jobs to Build a House of Windows in the Mountains of West Virginia
found this story online as i was browsing through tumblr and it's probably one of the most perfect places ever. i think it's such a great idea to make something so raw yet so unconventional to capture to full essence of the beauty that surrounds the place... i never knew the west virginia mountains were so breathtaking! and the people who made this... they're so amazing and i'm just gushing on the inside about how original and creative they are - to create something like this and to do what they do in their professions, such interesting individual personalities that gel together so harmoniously.

do take a look at the above link and the video below. absolutely inspiring!

Movie: Hitchcock (2012)

just finished watching "hitchcock", directed by sacha gervasi.
it's a lovely film, and the colours and lighting of this movie are extremely pretty!
this show is basically the a story about alfred hitchcock as he set upon his risky decision to film "psycho", which was the film that really established him as a director, in my opinion. to add to this, helen mirren plays his wife, alma reville, and their journey together as a couple really brightens up the plot of this film.
in a way, i felt it was a very feminist-orientated film, as it really portrayed alma in a very powerful light with her being the rock in alfred's life, and his equal, not less not more. it's a very delightful and balanced relationship, and it was very satisfying to see her as a support for him. the film even ended with the phrase, "he never won an oscar, but in 1979 the american film institute honoured him with its life achievement award. upon accepting it he said, "i share this award, as i have my life, with alma."" - certainly a very beautiful way to end the film.
just a regular day in the hitchcock household. reville at home in 1974 (phillips halsman/magnum)

i strongly recommend this movie to all who love film and feminism!

Art inspiration: Peter Carrington

So, I was browsing through Tumblr and I found a few of these illustrations and I thought they were amazingly inspiring and breathtaking, and it's really got this magical aura about it that draws me into the drawing.
These drawings are by the talented Peter Carrington, an illustrator from Manchester, who makes artworks about  science, natural history and his struggle to gain knowledge.
As Carrington states, “I’ve always had an interest in science and nature, and during my studies I decided to combine this with my practice. Through deeper research into different scientific areas it quickly became apparent that, due to having dyslexia, I was never going to get a grip of the topics to make work that wasn’t shallow and ill-informed. I became frustrated that I wouldn’t be able to use the visual language of the sciences that I had become obsessed with. It was at this point that this frustration became the forefront of the work and the drawings became a portrait of me and my struggle with dyslexia. I began using the visuals of science and natural history journals to create seemingly scientific illustrations.”
Carrington’s work harkens back to the history of biology and botany, where drawing and labels were the key to all knowledge, then he adds his own bit of mystical influence.

I've been really obsessed with illustrations and graphics recently, and will probably be showing you more of these works that inspire me. Perhaps one day I'll even share my very own drawings up here, but for now, they're being posted on my Instagram, which is @rosettes, so do take a look if you want to.
Have a lovely weekend! x

I don't know how to be something you'd miss

Stella McCartney photographed by Linda McCartney, 1984
I saw this photograph of Stella on Tumblr and I think it's absolutely lovely! I know it's pretty weird but although she is a designer and all, I think she is absolutely beautiful and her eyes are so magical. She looks a little like a mix between Natalia Vodianova and Gemma Ward, no? Okay, maybe just my opinion.

Tomorrow you'll still be here, no matter where your dreams will take you

These past few days, I've come across many times images of a lovely lilac haired girl with pink translucent circle spectacles called Ellen. Her style is so sweet and pastel and I thought I'd share some photographs of her with you! These photographs are taken by the wonderful Rebekah Seok, of whom takes absolutely amazing photos, do check her photo stream out! x

Meanwhile, a song for you to listen to as we get through the hot and humid summer days:

Have a great week ahead!☺

Inspiration: Leith Clark

I'd love to introduce you to one of my favourite people in the world/girl crush (along with Zooey Deschanel, Emma Watson, Kirsten Dunst and others). Her name is Leith Clark and she is the Canadian editor of the loveliest British magazine in the world, Lula. She's also a brilliant stylist, and some of the people she styles and is also friends with are Keira Knightley, Kirsten Dunst and Alexa Chung.

“There needs to be some magic, and you need to be able to create things the way you want to, not because you've learned how you’re supposed to do it.”
There you have it, one of the loveliest and sweetest people in the entire world. I love the way she dresses, it's really simple yet quirky and whimsical. It'd be my lifelong dream to have tea with her.
